Developing Citizens of the Digital World
A Continuing Professional Development Course for Professional Teachers
Course Description
This course will equip participants with an understanding of the various threats and challenges the digital world poses to today’s learners.
As technology becomes commonplace inside and outside the classroom, teachers, and students must always show awareness of the new digital dilemmas that provide opportunities for them to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly with technology.
This is for teachers who would like to learn more about digital citizenship and would like to develop these skills in their students.
This is also for educators who are also interested in creating programs for promoting digital citizenship for children 9 years old and above.
After the course, the participants should be able to:
1. Identify the attitudes, behaviors, skills, and values that must be developed to promote digital citizenship.2. Explore online and offline tools that help reinforce digital citizenship skills.
3. Explain and discuss the various cyber risks in the digital world that learners should watch out for.
4. Create a case study based on real-life situations that feature one of the cyber risks and provide an analysis and recommendations for managing it.
Course access and completion
Course access: November 2018 - January 2019
Commitment: Self-paced course, estimated time of 16 hours to complete the lecture videos, peer discussions, and activities, including submitting a case study and one-to-one online meeting with the facilitator.
How to earn your certificate*: Submit all requirements, participate in discussions, and present your case study to the facilitator via video chat (5-10 minutes).
*For learners availing of the installment plan, full payment must be completed before the certificate can be released.
Type of certificate: A digital certificate indicating the number of units you have received will be sent to your email.

Ana Kristelle Ortiz, M. Ed.
Telle is an experienced educator who has spent 16 years teaching self-contained classes in the primary grades of Xavier School San Juan and Xavier School Nuvali. She has served as Team Leader of the primary grades for almost a decade which meant being responsible for the proper character formation of students. This responsibility also gave her an opportunity to work closely with teachers, training them in curriculum development, classroom instruction, assessment design, and implementation of teaching strategies that support the holistic development of learners. She also chaired the Classroom Management Team of Xavier School. She completed her master’s degree in education, major in Basic Education Teaching in the Ateneo de Manila University.
